Spa weekend at Calcot Manor

I was lucky enough to receive a weekend stay at the Calcot Manor Spa as a birthday gift from Matt. I’d never been to a spa before and I was certainly looking forward to it. Matt booked the Sunday spa offer which included a stay in the Calcot Manor and a £45 voucher for a treatment in the spa and full use of spa facilities during our stay.

We drove up early Sunday afternoon, it was a lovely drive through idilic countryside. We eventually arrived at the stunning Calcot Manor, an absolutely beautiful Cotswold stone building clad with plants. We were shown to our room, Linthorpe and we weren’t disappointed.

It was perfect, a light and airy room, large comfortable bed, tea, coffee and biscuits. It also had a fantastic ensuite with what can only be described as the bath and shower of dreams, a deep roll top bath and beautiful grey and white tiles in the shower, both complete with fabulous aromatherapy associates products to use.

Once we had checked in we headed to the spa, although treatments booked for Monday we thought we would make the most of the other facilities. All I have to say is wow. It is stunning, from the indoor pool, sauna, steam room and relaxation area but my favourite part has to be to outdoor hot tub and log burner. The steam rising gently while the logs cracked, absolutely breath taking.

After relaxing in the spa we dried off, again everything was provided, hair dryers, GHD hair straighteners, beautiful REN hair and body products, which smelt devine.

Once ready we headed out for an evening walk around the grounds of Calcot, following the 3km trim trail, although we didn’t finish it as we had a dinner reservation to make.

We stopped first for a drink in the Gumstool Inn for a drink, it was a cosy and romantic pub feel with mood lighting and a large fire crackling away. They even gave us some free sour dough to nibble on, which was freshly baked and delicious.

Then we headed for the Conservatory for our dinner reservation. Matt opted for a starter, he had a chicken ravioli with a white onion velouté and pancetta. He let me try some and I can vouch for it’s deliciousness .

We shared the cote de Bouef, served with Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roast potatoes, greens and carrots. It was truly stunning and super filling as the portions were generous.

We decided on the home made ice cream for dessert as we were both full. Matt had vanilla and I chose the vanilla and a scoop of toasted marshmallow which was divine!

After dinner we went back to our room where I took full advantage of the bath. We relaxed with a coffee made in the Nespresso and Matt had a hot chocolate with the complimentary biscuits and we laid in bed in our robes and slippers watching the X-Factor. The bed was amazing too, it was large, with lovely big soft pillows and a sumptuous feather filled duvet, we certainly slept well.

We started the day with a drink from the complimentary tea and coffee supply in the room before heading down to  breakfast. Again it was stunning with plenty of choice from the kitchen including Eggs Benedict, salmon and scrambled egg, pancakes or a full English as well as an impressive selection of fresh fruit, juices, cereal and pastries.

After breakfast we returned to our room before checking out at 11am. The late checkout time was a big bonus, there was no rushing about before heading off. We checked out and headed over to the spa where we spent the day using the facilities, also having our treatments, both opting for a neck, back, shoulder and scalp massage. The only thing that could have improved it was a dual treatment, but this wasn’t available so we had our treatments separately. After we spent some time in the relaxation area, enjoying some lemon infused water before one final time in the sauna and steam room. Then it was time to get ready to head home, complete with our departure bag containing water and sweets for the journey. A very thoughtful little touch.

Its safe to say I enjoyed our stay at the wonderful Calcot Manor and I hope it won’t be too long until I’m back again. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about it too. Do you enjoy a spa day? Wheres the best spa you’ve ever been too, i’d love to know…
